The vibrant city of Port Harcourt, like many urban centers, faces its own set of challenges, and for many young people, the allure of substances offers a temporary escape from hardship. Olumide (not his real name) found himself trapped in this cycle from his early teens. What started as peer pressure soon spiraled into a dependency that cost him his education, strained his family relationships, and left him feeling lost and hopeless.
That’s when Olumide connected with DARCI Impact Initiative through one of our community outreach programs in the heart of his neighborhood in Port Harcourt. Our dedicated volunteers and outreach team met him with compassion and understanding, offering a listening ear and a pathway to help. Through our tailored intervention program, Olumide received individual counseling and was connected with a support group of other young men on similar journeys.

He has re-enrolled in a vocational training program, learning a trade that will provide him with a sustainable livelihood. He has reconnected with his family, and their relationships are healing. Olumide now volunteers with DARCI Impact, sharing his story with other young people and offering them the same hope he received.
